WAVE 1 (Europe: Portugal) – Our first official wave of travel was focused solely in Portugal. We traveled to the Centro and Norte regions of Portugal including the following locations: Ericeira, Mafra’s National Palace, Obidos, the monastery of Batalha, Alcobaça, Braga, a visit back to Coimbra on our way back from an overnight in Porto (both separate trips), Guimarães, Bragança, Vinho Verde country and Douro Valley, Monsanto and finally a dip back into the Alentejo region for an overnight in Elvas on the Spanish border.
We also spent some time on the Setúbal peninsula checking out vineyards and sights there prior to our northern swing. We also swung by Frye Island in Maine on our way to Portugal from Colorado.
