For the time being, our travel in Central and South America has been limited to a cruise we took on Viking Ocean Cruises over the Christmas and New Year’s weeks between 2017 and 2018. It was a fabulous experience from start to finish.
We met many wonderful people and the service on board was top notch. We hadn’t done any cruises together before and Melissa had been on only one with her parents in the Mediterranean prior, so this was a new experience for us.
The cruise left Miami and from there we visited Belize and some Maya ruins, Roatan Honduras, the eastern coast of Costa Rica for some amazing bird watching. The highlights of the cruise were our traverse of Panama and trip into the Panama Canal followed by our next stop in Cartagena, Columbia and, of course, all of those tropical sunrises and sunsets at sea.
Our final stop before returning to Miami was in Jamaica where we visited the Rose Hall Great House.
Aside from our brief day trip on Jamaica on our cruise, as far as the Caribbean goes, our only trip (to date) was my sail off the coasts of Puerto Rico in the late winter of 2023.
