New Mexico has some of the most stunning, rural and rugged scenery we’ve ever seen. On our many trips to Santa Fe (New Mexico’s capital) we will take Interstate 25 to it, from Denver, and US 285 back. This is arguably one of the most beautiful drives in the U.S.
Santa Fe itself is the highest altitude US Capitol and has a lot to offer. Great food, amazing art and good hiking trails. We love it at all times of year, but particularly in winter when the pinon burns in the fireplaces and the new Mexican food tastes even better.
Prior to COVID, we’d primarily driven through the beautiful countryside and headed for Santa Fe, because we love Santa Fe. However, during COVID times, we chose to remain socially distant and stayed in two lovely AirBnBs way way off the beaten path. One outside of Taos and another in Dixon, around Christmastime in 2020.
