We spent several weeks of our 2023 summer tour of England in Southeast England. Our base for explorations for most of it was in Rye. We loved Rye. It’s close to the coast and is a great little historical walled village. From Rye, we explored to the east, visiting the cliffs of Dover and Dover Castle, visiting Canterbury Cathedral, and exploring beyond Dover and Canterbury to the far east coast to Margate’s Shell Grotto.

Closer to Rye, we visited Battle Abbey and the site of the Battle of Hastings where Norman rule of England begin in 1066.
As we moved west, along the coastline, we visited the quirky little Isle of Wight for a weekend as well.
