All across Portugal, the streets of cities and villages come alight in December as the holidays (festas) and Christmas (Natal) approach. Our adopted town of Cascais is no exception.
This year, and I assume others, though four years ago when we were here for Christmas it was not here, the main town square hosted a quaint little Christmas market and the Ferris wheel which had been disassembled during COVID returned.

Cascais at Christmas
Last weekend, we headed out to see the lights both here in town and the larger light shows in the Praça do Comercial, Rossio Square, and the Chiado and Baixa neighborhoods of Lisbon. The lights of Lisbon are really quite something to behold. They didn’t disappoint in 2019 and didn’t, again, in 2023. We also were treated to a parade of Santas on motorcycles on Sunday as well.

Boas festas, happy holidays, Bom Natal e Bom Ano amigos e amigas. And to all a good night….

Merry Christmas to both of you!
