The Beatles Story, Liverpool

On a very brief stop to Liverpool as we passed through, while Melissa took a conference call, I stopped in for a visit to the Beatles Story Museum. The museum is located in Albert Dock, a vibrant and revitalized area with lots of hotels, restaurants and museums. Frankly, this area was far nicer than the uninformed picture of Liverpool I had in my head.

The museum is a recreation of many of the locations significant to The Beatles rise as one of the greatest rock bands of all time. It is short on memorabilia, but long on stories. The audio guide contains short snippets and narratives about each of the phases of the story. You go back in time to the clubs of Hamburg, and the Cavern Club, move forward to the Beatles arrival in the USA, the Ed Sullivan Show and the release of Sergeant Pepper and conclude with the break-up and the post-Beatles lives (and deaths for John and George) of the Fab Four.

If you’re a big Beatles fan, or even a passing admirer, and you’re in Liverpool it is pretty well done, not expensive and doesn’t take too terribly long to tour.

“You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one”

And if you just want a good smile, my sister sent me this video of James Corden and Paul McCartney doing carpool karaoke in Liverpool after reading my post. Lovely. He’s still got it.
